Tasker Profiles

Checking in based on connected Cell Tower (can be less precise, but no battery drain at all. Try it out first; if it works, use this!):

With this profile, whenever you connect to the cell towers near the place you configured, you will be checked in.
  • Physically go to the place you want to check in to
  • In Tasker, create a new profile (green plus sign) and name it whatever you like (X location, for instance)
  • Select State
  • Select Phone
  • Select Cell Near
  • Select Scan and let it scan for a while. Walk around for a bit if you can. This will allow tasker to scan the various near cell towers
  • Select Stop
  • Click the green Check sign to accept
  • On the task selection list, Select New Task and name it whatever you like (checking in at X location for instance)
  • Click the plus sign
  • Select Plugin
  • Select FsIntents
  • Select Edit
  • Select the venue you want to check-in to
  • Make sure everything is configured right for this check-in and click Accept at the bottom
  • Press the green check sign to accept the FsIntents action
  • Press the green check sign to accept the Task
  • Press the green check sign on Tasker main menu to accept all changes

This profile can be used in conjunction with several other location services to get more accurate results. Here are some options:

Check-in in when a wifi network is near(much more accurate, but may not always be available if there are no wifi networks near the place you want to check-in to):

  • Create a cell tower based profile like described above
  • Click the “Cell Near” rectangle in the newly created profile
  • Select Add
  • Select State
  • Select Net
  • Select Wifi Near
  • Select the magnifying glass in the Mac section
  • Select any of the available networks
  • Check Toggle Wifi
  • Click the green Check sign to accept
  • Press the green check sign on Tasker main menu to accept all changes

Check-in in when a wifi network is connected(more accurate than wifi near, because you’ll only be checked in when actually connected to a network, so you have more control over it):

  • Create a cell tower based profile like described above
  • Click the “Cell Near” rectangle in the newly created profile
  • Select Add
  • Select State
  • Select Net
  • Select Wifi Connected
  • Select the magnifying glass in the Mac section
  • Select the network connection you want to check-in with
  • Click the green Check sign to accept
  • Press the green check sign on Tasker main menu to accept all changes

Check-in based on location (this will use more battery, but is much more accurate then the cell tower approach and you can use it when there’s no wifi near; use only if the above didn’t work)

  • Create a cell tower based profile like described above
  • Click the “Cell Near” rectangle in the newly created profile
  • Select Location
  • Select Net and unselect GPS (GPS will use way too much battery and is generally not necessary)
  • Select the blue target icon on the bottom right and let tasker find your location
  • Click the green Check sign to accept
  • Press the green check sign on Tasker main menu to accept all changes
